me

me_orangeglasses_inloveHi. My name is Adam Bohannon and I’m a cultural anthropologist and independent consultant living on the West Coast. During the day, I spend my time working as a community manager for the DC-based startup, LivingSocial.  In addition, I occasionally help orgs think about where they might want to go with new media.

I’m passionate about exploring the impact of media on people, societies and cultures. In addition to assisting with an ethnography of YouTube, I’ve done research on the influence of internet-mediated communication on identity formation and culture.

In an effort to pursue this passion, I’ve recently applied to interdisciplinary graduate communication programs. My ambition is to research topics related to identity, context, privacy, the posthuman and emergent forms of social organization in the network society.

Here you can find most of the fragments of my online identity.  Though I try to maintain some semblance of professionalism, this space is primarily a representation of my digitally-extended self.  So, if you find any of the content present here objectionable, I sincerely apologize.  My blog, for instance, is a space for me to explore and reflect on my thoughts and feelings on a diversity of topics and share them with a handful of people.  Sometimes they may border on incoherence or you might find what I write banal or downright offensive, but in the spirit of experimentation and exploration I refuse to unduly censor myself.  With that said, it should also be understood that the content contained herein is in no way a reflection of my employer.  Only me.  Just a minor caveat.
