me

me_orangeglasses_inloveHi. My name is Adam Bohannon and I’m an anthropologist and independent consultant living on the West Coast.  I work as a community manager and social media coordinator for the DC-based startup LivingSocial while also assisting organizations in thinking about where they want to go with new media.  I’ve spoken on topics related to media, culture and education, and I also currently perform freelance photography and videography work.  A more comprehensive look at my experience may be found on my vitae.

I’m passionate about exploring the impact of media on people, societies and cultures. While conducting an internationally recognized ethnography of YouTube, I’ve also done research on the influence of internet-mediated communication on identity formation and culture.  In an effort to pursue my research interests, I’m actively pursuing and applying to interdisciplinary graduate communication programs. My professional ambition is to research topics related to identity, context, privacy, the posthuman and emergent forms of social organization in the network society.  I’ve also recently taken an interest in the social psychological dynamics of fame in contemporary culture and the proliferation of photo and video technologies and their impact on identity.
