Interbike 2010 + 7D

Had a chance to sneak into Interbike this week at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas. Lots and lots of, well, bikes. And some really, really rad displays. Was a nice opportunity for me to test out my new 7D and the 18-135/3.5 kit lens that came with it (I originally purchased the body only, until I realized the store was running a nice deal on the kit). It’s not a particularly fast lens, but it is wonderfully sharp and my only other lens is the Nifty Fifty which really limited me when I wanted to take in more of my surroundings to give the expansive feel of the expo. And most of the displays were just plain beautiful; a wider angle lens was definitely necessary to do them justice. I did try to mix it up though.  I found it difficult to maintain my settings throughout the day because not only was the expo center itself lit with hundreds of hanging fluorescents, but most displays had their own lighting fixtures.  So sometimes my ISO would be as slow as 100 and other times I’d need to jack it up to 3200 just to get decent exposure.  It wasn’t until halfway through the day that I found the auto ISO settings (by pressing INFO.).  I also experimented with CA mode, which given the constant change in lighting actually performed pretty well, though I preferred setting my ISO to auto in Tv or Av (depending on what I was shooting).

The expo itself brought in a real eclectic mix of people, from triathletes to those interested in road to track to BMX.  Literally, you’d turn a corner and be in a whole different world.  Personally, I wish I would’ve gotten more shots of people, but I was initially so in awe of the displays that I got distracted. And just like the attendees, every bike imaginable was on display.  And the colors (of the displays, the bikes, everything) were incredible.  You’ll see in the photos below just what I mean.

I’ve selected some shots for display here. I’ll be uploading some more to my Photobucket account soon.
