Test shots with Canon 50/1.8 II

Got my new Canon 50mm 1.8 II in the mail yesterday.  Piddled around with it and took some shots to play around with the DOF.  Definitely need to work on adjusting the aperture for the ideal focus, but still a ton of fun to shoot with.  The golden in the photos is my friend’s – his name is Nalu.  I was particularly surprised by how decent the night shot is of him.  I’m shooting with a Rebel XTi and prior to owning this lens shooting in such a low-light setting would’ve been impossible without the flash.  It’s incredibly sharp too!

I’m stoked to force myself to shoot with only this lens for a while. A friend of mine put it nicely: “Shooting with primes is like riding a single speed bike – the restrictions are liberating!”

For the main photo I believe I was in Program (according to the exif data). The settings were: 1/80, f2.5, ISO 100. The others, aside from Nalu at night, were shot using f1.8. Not sure the shutter speed, though. Probably similar (1/60 or 1/80). I upped the saturation a bit on the flower to make it more vibrant.
