Promise to myself: write every day

So, last night I submitted my application to USC Annenberg.  After reading and re-reading my statement of purpose (and re-re-reading) I paid the steep app fee ($85!), swallowed my pride, and clicked the “submit” button.  Now, once again, the dreadful waiting game begins.  Everyday is a mini battle trying to stop myself from worrying whether I forget anything or if I could have worded the first sentence of my statement of purpose differently for better impact.

Crafting my statement of purpose was a task and it made me painfully aware of how much I’ve neglected my writing.  So, in an attempt to stave off any further damage from disuse, I’ve made a pact with myself to write everyday, about something, anything.  Anyone have tips on getting started?  I came across the blog Daily Writing Tips and they have a post on writing every day (and other useful topics) with some good advice, but it seems like it’s a ritual practiced mostly by fiction writers.  And I don’t write fiction.

But maybe I should?  I just need to get the gears going again.
